School cleared of encroachers

Seppa, Sept 26: The Govt Higher Secondary School, Bebo colony at Seppa has been cleared of encroachers, who were removed by a team of district administration.

A message has been sent out to the encroachers that zero tolerance approach has been adopted by the East Kameng District, said an official release while adding that encroachment cases should be immediately brought to the notice of the Estate Offices so that early action can be taken. Set health target: DC

SEPPA, Sept 26: Addressing the First District Level Convergence Meeting on Rashtriya Krishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) related to Adolescent Health at Seppa yesterday, East Kameng DC Sandeep Kumar Singh appealed all the stakeholders to shoulder their responsibilities and set a target for health functionaries to complete the RBSK and RKSK activities by February 2016 in the entire district.

He directed the DMO to share the copies of the time schedule of RKSK to all stakeholders. ADC Pooja Jain said that mission Indradhanush Programme was successfully done in the district and similar sprit be maintained by health functionaries by conducting the camp in the rural areas and serving the needy people. She informed that model Anganwadi Centre has been started and asked the RBSK team to directly involve the CDPOs.

ZPM M. Cheda urged the Doctors to try to provide the medicines free of cast to the poor patients with proper guidance of taking medicine.

Guv appreciates ex-MP for tea plantation

RUKSIN, Sept 26: Arunachal Governor J. P Rajkhowa has given a citation to Nyodek Yonggam, former Rajya Sabha member and retired Chief Information Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh in recognition of his distinguished public service and exemplary commitment in the field of tea plantation in the state.

Yonggam, who earlier had served in Tea Company and gained practical knowledge of scientific tea cultivation, has been playing an active role in extension of tea cultivation in Siang basin. Leading the Small Tea Growers Association of Siang Basin now, he initiated extension of cultivation in the wasteland of Siang basin covering a large part of bordering Assam.

70-year old Yonggam is a native of Oyan village in East Siang. He has developed tea garden in a 10- hectare area in his residence complex, which yields over 60,000 KGs of green tea leaves a year.

Renovate water tank

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: Claiming that the residents near Donyi Polo Road have been facing hardship due to non-supply of drinking water, the Arunachal Tribal Contractor Welfare Association Vice President Tarh Tana today appealed the concern PHED, Itanagar to immediately renovate the source tank.

Tana, in a release claimed that despite construction of a water tank for the colony in 2013, there is no water supply in the colony and further urged the concern department for timely maintenance of the water tank to ensure regular water supply.

Yazali HS School celebrates Golden Jubilee

YAZALI, Sept 26: A small town in Lower Subansiri district Yazali came alive in celebrating the golden jubilee of the establishment of the Government Higher Secondary School recently.

Amidst the hordes of alumni who attended the occasion starting right from the year of its establishment in 1965, Education minister, Tapang Taloh announced a sum of Rs 2 crore for the construction of an auditorium for the school.

Taloh also spoke on the need to streamline the distribution of teacher selection and posting as per the need while stating that there were excess elementary teachers in East Siang, West Siang and Papum Pare.

Parliamentary Secretary Education, Bamang Felix called on the younger generation teachers not to take teaching as a ‘time- pass’ job.

Earlier, the formal session of the golden Jubilee celebration was addressed by Likha Saaya Parliamentary Secretary, Home, and Sports & Youth Affairs who is also the local MLA. He said that the institution has been the front bearer in bringing out the best talents, particularly in the Nyishi belt and thereby contributing in the overall development of the state.

Saaya highlighted some of the basic requirements in the school such as the auditorium, renovations of the hostel, quarter for the teachers along with clean and safe drinking water facilities.

Bengia Tolum, NES president, while sharing his experience of being a teacher in the institution, called upon the youth as well as the public and teachers of Yazali to sacrifice for the growth of the school and not to crave for materialistic growth.

Earlier, on September 5th, the day one of the celebration saw tree plantation, sports as well as interaction programme of the alumni wherein 354 former students of the institution shared their memories of the school, amidst presentations of cultural programmes in between.

RIST Football Club win 49th Arunachal Sports Meet Football Tournament

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: RIST Football Club defeated Lahm FC by a solitary goal in a keenly contested final match to win the 49th Arunachal Sports Meet Football Tournament at SAI North East Regional Centre, Guwahati on Saturday,

The winner was awarded cash prize of Rs. 10,000 with a trophy while runners up was given Rs. 5,000.

Tabang Mibang of RIST and Taba Tallo won the best player and best goal keeper awards respectively. Jonshon Rinya of Lahm FC became the highest scorer. Nabin Nagar FC won the discipline team award.

The tournament was organized by Guwahati Arunachal Student's Union (GASU) with the motto of maintaining unity through sports.

A total 16 teams participated in the tournament.

Media interaction prog held

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: A meeting-cum-media interaction programme was conducted by the state unit of National Students’ Union of India at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Itanagar here today.

In the meeting NSUI state secretary-cum-state media coordinator Takar Rie highlighted the role and function of media in the union and in the state. Members of state NSUI social media team along with NSUI state president and vice-president also attended the programme.

Inter-school literary competition held

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: In order to create suitable environment of education in and around Basar area, a day-long inter-school literary cum cultural programme was organised by the G B English Academy, under the aegis of Block Education Officer at Basar today.

Altogether seven private schools and five government schools took part in the competition.

Earlier, attending the programme as resource person Basar ADO Tojo Bam educated the participants on the skill of essay writing, delivering extempore speech, drawing and methods of poem recitation.

APP personnel passes away

Ruksin, Sept 26: Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) personnel Tanya Ering has died at the age 45 at a private hospital in Itanagar. Hailing from Debing village Under Ruksin Circle in East Siang District, he left behind his wife, one son and a daughter.

He was engaged as a Personnel Security Officer (PSO) to one of the Members of State Information Commission.

Supreme Court Verdict on Chakma-Hajong Refugees

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that it was annoyed by the stoic silence maintained by the state government on the recent Supreme Court (SC) verdict to grant citizenship rights to Chakma and Hajong refugees within three months.

The SC verdict, given in contradiction to Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873 that provides special protection and safeguard for the peaceful existence of the indigenous tribal people of Arunachal Pradesh, will pose serious threat to the demography and ethnic identity of indigenous people of the state, said Leader of Opposition Tamiyo Taga in a press conference here today.

“We as law abiding citizens can’t disobey the SC order; but we can definitely raise strong protest against it,” he said.

Criticizing the state government for taking the serious issue involving future of the state in a half-hearted manner, the Leader of Opposition Taga suggested the state government to file a leave petition to review or reconsider the judgment. He also stressed the need for passing a bill in the Parliament that will protect and safeguard the indigenous people’s rights from such onslaughts in the future.

He said that more than 2000 Chakma and Hajong refugees were enrolled in the electoral rolls in violation of the BEFR and Chin Hill Regulations, 1896 which allow the indigenous tribal people only to participate in the democratic process, he said. The inclusion of Chakma and Hajong refugees in the electoral rolls has further strengthened their claim for granting the citizenship, Taga said.

He called upon the people of the state, political parties, students’ organizations, associations to rise to the occasion brushing aside all petty differences and fight against the SC verdict by adopting all democratic means and legal options.

AAPSU to petition against judgment, to hold protest rally on Sept 28

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has said that it will petition against the recent judgment of the Supreme Court to grant citizenship rights to the Chakma and Hajong refugees in the state.

“We will file curative as well as review petition against the judgment,” informed AAPSU president Kamta Lapung, addressing media persons at Press Club here today.

He held the state government responsible for the judgment passed by the Supreme Court.

“The state government failed to appear during any of the hearings,” claimed Lapung.

He also expressed disappointment at the three MPs of the state accusing them of not working for the interest of the people.

They are of no use to us if they cannot work for the interest of its people,” he said.

With the judgment, General secretary Biru Nasi said that the Supreme Court and state government has backstabbed AAPSU.

“If granted, it will greatly hamper the demography of the state with serious socio-economic and political implications,” he said further adding that the situation of the state would be like that of Tripura.

He expressed disappointment that the Joint High Power Committee on the issue was not consulted.

Lapung urged the state government to remove the Standing Counsel and Advocate General of the state government alleging their indifferent attitude on Chakma and Hajong refugee issue.

Vice president cum Chairman on Refugee Issue Likha Takar talking about various criminal activities by the Chakma and Hajong refugees said that the state is being made a dumping ground of refugees. AAPSU, meanwhile, will hold a mass protest rally on the issue here on September 28 next.

“We have to be united against the Supreme Court’s directive,” General Secretary said while calling on everyone to participate in the rally.

Chayangtajo in dire need of a bank: Karya

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: Chayangtajo MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Health and Family Welfare, Fisheries) Karya Bagang appealed to the higher authorities of State Bank of India (SBI) to open its branch at Chayangtajo to cater to the banking needs of people of the constituency.

Highlighting the hardships faced by the general public, government employees, business community due to non availability of bank in Chayangtajo at a press meet here today, the Parliamentary Secretary said that people living in Chayangtajo have to travel to distant Seppa, the district headquarters of East Kameng, to avail the banking facility, which causes great inconvenience to them.

Moreover, most of the villagers are still unable to avail the benefits of Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana and various other schemes such as MNREGA, IAY due to absence of bank, she said.

She appealed to the SBI authority to open its branch as soon as possible.

A building for the purpose of opening a branch of the bank along with quarters for staff was constructed in 1987 in Chayangtajo but the dream of having a bank by the people of the area have not been realised, Karya said. She further informed that at least 20 communications have already been made to various higher authorities requesting for opening a SBI branch at Chayangtajo so far. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on September 9 this year made the latest communication to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for early start of the bank, informed Karya.

There are more than 10,000 people in Chayangtajo and the ADC headquarters houses many schools, educational institutes, various government departments. Besides, the area is fully accessible by all weather road; and there is also good telecommunication facilities and police station for maintaining law and order, she informed,

Rectify past deficiencies to make Arunachal a tourist destination: Rajkhowa

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh JP Rajkhowa while wishing the entrepreneurs engaged in Tourism sector and tourists on World Tourism Day urged upon the people to pull up their socks, rectify the deficiencies of the past and make Arunachal Pradesh the most favoured tourist destination among tourists of the country and abroad in near future.

He expressed the hope that celebration will foster awareness about the tremendous tourism potential of the State and promote the rich and varied treasure gifted by Nature.

In his message on the occasion, the Governor said that this year, the theme of the celebration is ‘Millions of Tourists, millions of opportunities’.

Let us particularly focus our attention on Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive - aiming at integrated development of tourist circuits and pilgrimage centres, the Governor added. He also underscored the need on building high quality tourism infrastructure in the State; building super quality roads and very quick and quality maintenance of existing pot-holes, depressed and uneven roads by using latest technologies and equipments with best available technical expertise in the country.

Emphasizing on importance of the sector, the Governor said that Tourism translates into closer collaboration and cultural exchanges across the nation and with distant communities all over the world.

BJP targeting Cong-ruled states: APCC

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today alleged that the BJP since coming to power in 2014 has been targeting the Congress-ruled states in the country by every possible means such as non-release of central fund, instituting various kinds of enquiries into fictitious allegations and now utilizing CBI to mount pressure.

APCC said this while reacting strongly to the CBI raids against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.

APCC condemned the alleged high-handedness of PM Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre, saying that the Central Govt is using CBI to harass and tarnish the image of Virbhadra Singh.

CBI had reportedly filed a case against Himachal Pradesh CM and carried out raids at 11 places including his residence at Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Raising strong objection to such raids, the Congress party said that the CBI has been working on the whims of BJP led Government and has intentionally conducted the raid on the day when marriage of Singh’s daughter was being solemnized.

“It is nothing but murder of democracy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to impose dictatorship in the country,” said APCC while demanding immediate suspension of “such arbitrary raids which holds no water.”

Governor suggests for joint cultural exchange prog to maintain age-old bond

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh J P Rajkhowa today advised the members of the Assamese community to strengthen the amity and bond of brotherly relations amongst the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Recalling one of the followers of Sankaradeva of some 460 years ago, Shri Narottam of present day Tirap district, he also suggested for joint cultural exchange programmes to maintain the age-old cultural bond. The Governor was addressing the gathering in the 567th Birth Anniversary celebration of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev at Kristi Kendra, Naharlagun today.

The Governor said that Srimanta Sankardeva was one of the greatest Saints of Medieval India. He was one of the most versatile legendary personalities of all times from the North Eastern Region of the country, who played the role of a saviour of humanity in the region. He was a social reformer, who advocated for a casteless society, for betterment and welfare of women, and strongly opposed bloody sacrifices. Sankaradeva preached and practiced the mission - love for humanity is love for God.

The Governor, who is regarded as an authority on study of Sankaradeva and his life said that Sankaradeva was a versatile genius – a yoga expert, an ace swimmer, a bull fighter and sportsman, a culinary expert and a master weaver cum designer. As a spiritual guru, Sankaradeva was a propounder of Eka-Sarana-Naam-Dharma or Neo-Vaisnavism.

The Governor urged upon the people to imbibe the virtues and ideals of Sankaradeva. He was impressed by the youth taking part in the cultural programme of the day. The Governor emphasised on educating the rich cultural heritage amongst the members of the community, particularly the younger generation and said that the elders must preserve and promote their heritage.

He also lauded the Kristi Kendra, Naharlagun for imparting about a month-long training to about a dozen Arunachali girls in ‘Sattria Dance’ one of the recognised Classical Dance forms of India.

Speaking as the ‘Appointed Speaker’ of the occasion, Luhit Chandra Sharma said that Sankardeva was the greatest gift to the society. He propounded a casteless and classless society.

The Sattradhikar or ‘Chief of Sattra’ of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Majuli Janardan Deva Goswami also spoke on the occasion.

Accompanied by First Lady of the State Rita Rajkhowa, the Governor inaugurated a guest house of the Naam Ghar and unveiled a ‘wall magazine’ in the temple complex on the day. The Naam Ghar was established in 1974 with individual contribution of the Assamese Community and local Arunachali people.

Presenting the rich Assamese Cultural Heritage, the members of the Kristi Kendra performed Borgeet, Krishna Nrittya, devotional modern dance, Diha Naam and Khul Vadaan.

APCRCC’s New Life Bible College inaugurated

ITANAGAR, Sept 26: New Life Bible College, a Theological institution under Arunachal Pradesh Christian Revival Church Council (APCRCC) was dedicated and inaugurated today by Rev. Dr. Takeng Taggu, Chairman, Ordination Board of APCRC Council at Dobam village, Banderdewa.

Rev. Dr. Taggu also dedicated the Silver Jubilee Memorial building of APCRCWW.

Speaking at the event Kameng Dolo, MLA and the Principal Adviser to CM said that it is an important academic stride by a church organisation which will teach the basic essence of theological studies and expressed his hope that the college will produce many bible scholars in the days to come.

Lohit DC exhorts achievers to work for the state
